Emotion of ‘belief’ is the most powerful and the most vital emotion gifted to us by the divine. These emotions express that any form of existence is real or true only if you trust it and thus become a mirror of devotion.

To prove the power of this mystical emotion, a beautiful story of Bhakta Prahalaad from Srimad Bhagwata is useful. This story even shows that age has no relation with your emotion and soul; they both are vast and never ending. Bhakt aPrahalaad was the son of Demon king Hiranayakashyap and Mata Kayadhu. Hiranayakashyap had gained supreme power from Lord Brahma after performing penance-The gift that his death would be untouched by any creature on earth or heaven or weapon or any boundaries of time. Thus the demon hence used his demonic energy for killing the Brahmans as he envied lord Vishnu; because Lord Vishnu had killed Hiranayakashyap’s elder brother Hiranyaksh for spoiling the peace and harmony of earth and heaven.

He won the throne of Indra because of which he asked every creature on the earth to serve and worship him. Destiny and god’s wish is unknown to every human. Prahalaad was the fourth and youngest son of Hiranayakashyap. Prahalaad worshiped Lord Vishnu and chanted divine’s name every moment. Prahalaad strongly believed that lord resides in every particle of this earth and he is the savior of every creature on this earth. Just at the age of eight Prahalaad knew the difference of good and evil, the truth of life and the meaning of divine. In the gurukul every child was attracted to prahalad’s belief which annoyed the Gurus of the ashram. They took Prahalaad to his father, but when Hiranyakashyap came to know this fact he thronged into rage. He tried to kill his own son out of envy. He threw Prahalaad from mountain peaks, threw harsh weapons, threw tones of weight, starved him of food and water; he did all cruel acts but every time Prahalaad’s strong belief acted as a shield. He even asked his sister to use her magical power of staying alive in fire for killing Prahalaad; but in vain. Hiranyakashyap was astonished and decided to see the power of Prahalaad’s belief. He asked Prahalaad where his God resided; to which Prahalaad replied that God resided in every particle of this earth. To prove Prahalaad wrong he started demolishing the pillars of the palace one by one with his Gada weapon. At that very moment Lord Vishnu appeared out of a pillar in the form of Lord Narsimha. Lord caught hold of Hiranyakashyap and tore his stomach apart by his mere nails on the entrance of his castle.

God never likes those who hurt others especially his devotees for their selfish emotions. This excerpt from Srimad Bhagwat explains that ‘belief’ is another emotion which is the mirror of devotion.

Emotions are the powerful tools that divine have bestowed us on this earth. Every deed and every success hides a story behind it and if we notice an emotion must have motivated us to commit or achieve it. It may be humiliation, anger, hate, love etc. Unknowingly these emotions uplift our boundaries and reveal the power we possess within.

Humiliation and Desire are emotions that combined together and helped a five year old boy ‘Dhruva’ to achieve divine Sri Vishnu’s love and devotion. Dhruva was the son of King Uttaanpad. The King had two wives Suniti and Suruchi, each of them had a son. Dhruva was the son of Suniti and Uttam was the son of Suruchi. Uttam got all pleasures and love of the King; but Dhruva never enjoyed princely pleasures and was deprived of his father’s love. One day Dhruva went up to the King; suddenly on seeing the innocent child King picked up Dhruva and made him sit on his lap. But the second wife in rage pushed the child on the floor and humiliated his innocent heart, by saying that if Dhruva was really interested to be showered by his father’s love he should have been her son. Dhruva felt those words like sharp arrows and went in tears to his mother and cried out in pain. Suniti was a pious lady; she said that God Sri Vishnu had the power to grant every wish. On hearing these words he got so motivated that he went into deep forest to achieve Sri Vishnu’s blessings. Narad Muni guided the little child’s determination and suggested him to perform spiritual penance. Dhruva did it with so grit that it was difficult even for big saints and sages. Lord Vishnu was far impressed by little Dhruva’s devotion he came before the child and showered His love on him. He made Dhruva to sit in his lap, the abode where no one ever think to achieve and was showered with gifts. This episode in Shri Mad Bhagwat Puraan clearly defines that emotion can become the mirror of devotion; it is not the slave of age or time.
